This group of round upright stone markers is the site of the Cherokee town of Chota. Each stone represents a Cherokee clan....Deer, Wild Potato, Wolf, Paint, Bird, Long Hair, and Blue. Also along this peninsula is the marker for Cherokee town of Tanasi, once the capital of the Cherokee nation and probably the reason Tennessee is called Tennessee.
