The WWII memorial is the newest on the Mall(dedicated in 2004). Neither Floyd nor I had seen it on our previous visits. What a site to see!! Placed between the Washington Monument and Lincoln Memorial, it includes the roll call of the nation...56 states and territories that were united in this common cause. Key battles are inscribed; 4,000 gold stars represent the more than 400,000 Americans who gave their lives in the war. We agreed that it was a shame that it took so long for us to commemorate the sacrifices these men and women made. It was pretty darn impressive. And school kids everywhere. Definitely one of the busiest places we saw. We did learn that April and May are the busiest months of the year for the DC area. It seems schools love bringing students on field trips, class trips, whatever trips...we've seen HUGE groups...many are even dressed alike. All have been very well behaved...even more amazing.
